Title: " Optimal design of experiments "

This talk will use weighing design for a chemical balance to illustrate
the discipline "optimal design of experiments". A design X is chosen
from a set S of designs such that the corresponding least square
estimator of the mean parameter vector has best precision measured by
one or a set of optimal criteria.Given a design problem, weighing or
otherwise, various techniques for finding extreme-values of real-valued
functions are used and may involve majorization (distribution of
wealth), graph theory or reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces. For
mathematical convenience, S can be extended or restricted to a set T
such that the optimal designs remain in S. Sometimes, the experiment is
subject to a random effect such as noise, X is then chosen to be robust
with respect to this effect.
