Arts Council Expulsions

In the last two days I have learned that within the last two months as
many as 13 Student Councillors (I have their names) have been expelled
from the Faculty of Arts Council because apparently they have missed
meetings. As recently as November 16, 1997, Marla Chodak has confirmed to
me that these 13 students were among the student members of the Faculty of
Arts Council. I have now in my possession a document dated November 24,
1997, from the "Office of the Vice-Chair" (a student named David Zic) to
the Faculty of Arts Student Caucus recommending the expulsion of these 13
students. I also understand that Mr. Zic who is also a member of the
Senate has been telephoning and harassing Student Arts Council members
concerning their attendance of Council meetings. These students could not
have been thrown out of the Council without the knowledge and
collaboration of the Office of the Dean. I am however drafting a memo to
Professor Kim Michasiw, chair of Council, concerning this obviously very
grave development.

I have also learned that while Arts election ballots (since Fallis became
Dean) are distributed to the faculty mailboxes as general and unfolded
forms without envelopes, addresses or names, they are mailed privately to
the homes of student members of the Council. I suppose Mr. Zic is also in
charge of ensuring that these students vote!
