The following is a letter from OCUFA Vice-President, Hank Jacek,
requesting that faculty associations provide information on the effect
of funding cutbacks on your campus. Please send your responses to YUFA
at yufa@yorku.ca. Your responses will be passed along to OCUFA. Thank
you.

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION ON THE IMPACT
OF FUNDING CUTBACKS ON YOUR CAMPUS

In order to enhance OCUFA and local association lobbying and public
awareness, would local faculty associations and others on the OCUFA List
please provide the OCUFA List with information on the effects of funding
cutbacks on your campus. Would you also please forward this request to
faculty association members on your campus.

The information should include quantitative and qualitative examples of
this impact over the past five years (e.g. since 1995, campus x has lost
100 full-time equivalent faculty or 5% of full-time faculty. The result
is larger classes, diminished research capacity due to loss of
experienced researchers. etc)

This information should address the impact on faculty, students,
research and teaching, libraries and other resources, community service,
local and provincial economy, among other issues. For example, at
McMaster, in 1997, the libraries excluding health sciences were forced
to cancel 576 subscriptions to academic journals and related serials
with a 1997 annual subscription value of $298,257. The Health Sciences
Library made its own additional cancellations.

IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE GET AS MANY RESPONSES AS POSSIBLE.

Thank you for your help.
