Speed of the list

I have noticed that it frequently takes 5 to 10 hours for mail to this
list to be forwarded from the utstat.toronto.edu machine to addresses
on the list. For example, I enclose some of the headers on the copy I
received of the recent message from Bruce McCullough
<BMCCULLO@fcc.gov>. For those not familiar with North American time
zones, EST is -0500 so the message took nearly six hours to get from
utstat.toronto.edu to atlas.stat.wisc.edu.

Received: from utstat.toronto.edu (utstat.toronto.edu [128.100.73.1])
by atlas.stat.wisc.edu (8.8.6/8.8.6) with SMTP id UAA19038
for <bates@stat.wisc.edu>; Wed, 14 Jan 1998 20:14:19 -0600 (CST)
Received: by utstat; Wed Jan 14 15:28 EST 1998

Is it worthwhile considering moving the list? One possibility is to
request that this list be added to those processed at mailbase.ac.uk.
Those lists include the allstat list, the multilevel list, and
several more statistics-related lists.

I see mail to the mailbase lists being processed within minutes of
being received. The obvious defect in this suggestion is that the
majority of the addresses on the list are in North American so this
could result in a lot of intercontinental mail traffic unless the
mailers at mailbase are really smart.
