Dear fellow-users.

I believe I am missing a fundamental concept when working with the survexp
function and need to be educated on the matter. Currently, I am working with
both S-Plus 4.0 for windows and S-Plus 3.4 for unix. I am attempting to utilize
the survexp function with a coxph for a ratetable to predict individual patient
survival. I get divergent results when I attempt to predict event-free survival
per patient from a dataframe vs entering the data manually per patient in the
ratetable component of the function. I am not sure why this is occuring. Is
anyone aware of any problems with this function or am I missing a fundamental
concept of how the function calculates values?

Thanks

Dan Pettitt.

Dear Fellow Users of Splus Version 3.1,

I am using the princomp and factanal function of Splus. I was wondering if someone could tell me what the 'loadings' in splus are defined as.

I read somewhere that the princomp loadings are normalised eigenvectors and the "correlations" are also loadings, but I cannot seem to access this information.

Also if anyone knows of a good data sources which explains simply the differences between principal components and factor analysis, I would appreciate if they told me how to get a hold of this information.

Thanks in advance,
Jason
