About The Board

The Queensland Board of Senior Secondary School Studies is
responsible for 35 000 Senior Certificates and 26 000 Tertiary
Entrance Statements each year. These show: moderated school-based
assessments in Board, Board-registered subjects and vocational
education programs, grades in an externally assessed cross-
curriculum test devised, constructed and administered by the
Board; and tertiary entrance rankings determined by the Board
from scaled subject assessments. The 'high-stakes' nature of
senior secondary assessment means that considerable public
concern focuses each year on the results issued by the Board.

The Office of the Board is responsible for the conduct of this
intersystemic system of Board developed and approved curriculum,
moderated school-based assessment, cross-curriculum testing and
Board certification. The system is transparent, subject to
intense public scrutiny, has exacting production lines, rigid
timetables and requirements for absolute accuracy and its
operation requires the exercise of specialist professional and
technical skills in a highly complex environment.

About the position

The Manager (Quantitative Research Services) will
lead and manage the Quantitative Research Services section
to ensure that the operations of the Board are supported by
appropriately sophisticated and technically accurate quantitative
procedures and analyses

ensure that the annual determination of tertiary entrance
results implements the approved technical policies and procedures
in an accurate, comprehensive and timely manner

ensure that accounts of quantitative research and analyses
required by Policy and Evaluation and other clients are clear,
effective and timely.

ensure the timely and accurate conduct of quantitative
procedures and analyses required for the Queensland Core Skills
Test marker monitoring and test score analyses

provide advice about research design and data analysis
issues ensuring that it is based on high standards of
quantitative research methods.

The Manager (Quantitative Research Services) reports directly to
the Deputy Director (Analysis & Resources).

Applicants must

have either a Master's degree by research thesis or a
Doctorate by research thesis from a recognised tertiary

have a proven high level of skills in managing,
conceptualising and designing and implementing major quantitative
research, evaluation and review projects and key tasks to meet
client needs effectively and efficiently in an educational
institution with a statewide operation.

have proven ability to provide high-level advice about the
selection and implementation of a broad range of sophisticated
quantitative techniques used in modern statistics

have a proven ability to implement quantitative techniques
in programming languages such as C and statistical packages such
as S-plus.
