Thanks for all your replies. I have located a user who will sell me copies
of both books.

FWIW, quite a number of users expressed surprise at my discovery that the
books were listed as "out of print". They directed me to several sources
where they might be located. I also received a reply from someone at Bell
Labs who indicated that the books were not out of print. As I replied to
him privately, it might be a good idea if someone shared this secret with
Mathsoft, Amazon.Com, Books-In-Print, Barnes and Noble, and Powells
Technical Books, all of which show these books as "out of print".

The confusion might stem from the fact that both are now
published/distributed by Chapman & Hall, not their original publishers;
however one would think that in a computerized world, this information
could be updated quickly (sigh.....)

But, again, thanks to all of you for assisting me in locating the books. I
continue to be overwhelmed by the usefulness of this list and the many
souls who respond quickly and informatively to virtually any question.
