[S] Command line editor problem

Yesterdasy I asked

I now add that I was not using Smode.

Thanks to those who responded, particularly Frank Neidhoefer, who replied:

Frank: i don't know what causes this problem, but deleting the file
Frank: .Splus_history
Frank: in your *HOME-directory* helps.

It did indeed fix my problem. I'll leave the understanding to others
