I had the same problem and called StatSci about it last week. They know
about the problem but had no fix yet. The help file seems to be to big for
some of their tools. They told me to keep an eye on the support web page
(http://www.mathsoft.com/support/splusmenu.htm) for a fix or work-around.

I recently installed SPlus 4.5 on my office and my home machines. Both are
Pentium II machines (one 266 MHz and one 300 MHz - both 128 MB RAM).

If I click on Help and either SPlus Help or Search, hen click the tab
labelled "Find", and finally use the default option (minimize database),
the program begins to assemble the word list and then reports an "out of
memory" error. This has happened on two different machines (described
above) with no other applications running (and plenty of Windows Memory and
GDI memory). I cannot get the help files to build their word lists. Have
you had reports of this from others. (NB: I did not have this problem in
4.0).
