An answer which works for me is :
par(err=-1).
as pointed out by Christian Keller and Rolf Turner.

Thanks to everyone who replied,

THE ORGINAL QUESTION :

I have a program which I often run that draws lines outside
the range of the plot window. I would like to prevent the
messages about "lines out of bounds" being produced.

For example :

trellis.device(motif)
plot(c(1,2),c(1,2),type='n')
lines(c(1,3),c(1.5,1.5))

gives the warning message

Lines out of bounds X= 3 Y= 1.5

I have tried to suppress this using options("warn"=-1) but clearly
this is the wrong handle to turn. Can anyone tell me how to suppress
these messages ?

( I run Splus V3.4 for HP 9000 series under
HP-UX V10.20 on an HP 735 machine )

Many thanks for any suggestions,

Andrew
