[S] Function for quantile CI's now available

Hi,

There were enough requests for my function, ci.quantile(), that I have
put a file containing the dumped S-PLUS code on my web site.
There is nothing at all system-dependent about this code; you
can download a .q file at either

http://www.spg.wau.nl/pv/pub/chasalow/S/win/ci.quantile/

or

http://www.spg.wau.nl/pv/pub/chasalow/S/unix/ci.quantile/ .

The file contains four functions: the main culprit, ci.quantile(), and
three accomplices, ciq.index(), fuzzymin(), and fuzzymax(). Source
the file into S-PLUS - source("ci_quant.q") - to load the functions into
the S-PLUS directory of your choice, and away you go.

The function ci.quantile() calculates nonparametric confidence
intervals for quantiles of an empirical distribution, using order
statistics as endpoints. As pointed out by Luc Wouters in a
previous email, these are rather conservative intervals.

There are no separate help files (yet), but plenty of detailed
documentation in the function bodies.

As always, problems or bug reports, suggestions for improvements,
criticism, praise, or any other polite comments much appreciated.

Cheers,
Scott
