[S] Dendogram difficulties

Dear List

Having failed in my atempt to implement the DAISY routine I resorted to
SAS/IML to create a distance matrix. My goal is to produce nice
dendograms/clustering trees of my clusters.

Attempt 1. Using hclust on my symmetric dissimilarity matrix...this
yields the error "Non-numeric vector"

Attempt 2: After converting my matrix to the approprite vector form,
applying AGNES with diss=T. Then using PLOT>AGNES does give me plots.
Not satisfied with this I want to be able to split my trees and add nice
labels. So ....

Attempt 3: Use AGNES, then a CUTREE command followed by PLCLUST of the
SUBTREE with appropriate LABELS. This worked nicely on a little test
data set, however when I tried on it my real data the plclust seems to
put some of the connecting lines upside down resulting in a total mess.

Why? What have I done wrong?

Thanks in advance

Nicola Tilt
