Remediation Information

MATH 1310.03F, 2000, Section A

Remediation information for students who did not write the first final exam in December

1. There will be make-up lectures for Math 1310 students who did not write the first final exam, beginning on Tuesday, January 16, 2001 and ending on Thursday, February 8, 2001 if the tentative offer between the university and CUPE 3903 teaching and graduate assistants is ratified. The make-up lectures will be held in the same time and place as before, that is,

Time: Tues. Thur. 8:30-10:00 AM.

Place: Curtis Lecture Hall C.

2.During the CUPE strike, our classes, quizzes and in-class exams were held as scheduled. Since the strike started, we have studied the following SECTIONS.

4.7, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5, 5.7

and assigned the homework which can be found in

If you did not write the first final exam in December, you should study these sections and do the homework.

3. OFFICE HOURS Tues. Thur. 1:00-2:30 in S514 Ross Building. The instructor is available at these times for individual assistance and consultation, and is also available at other times by appointment. In addition, as long as the instructor is in the office, you are also welcome to come in to get extra help.

4.MATH LAB Assistance with mathematical questions on the course or the homework is available from 11:00am-4:00pm, Mon-Fri, beginning next Friday at the Mathematics and Statistics Laboratory, room S525 Ross.

5.There will be a second final exam scheduled by the Office of the Registrar after the remedial session. All students who did not write the first final exam in December must write this second final exam to complete the course.

6.The second final exam will cover the following sections.

Chapter 3: 3.4, 3.5.

Chapter 4: 4.2, 4.3,4.4,4.5,4.6,4.7.

Chapter 5: 5.2,5.3,5.4,5.5,5.7.

There are ten questions on the second final exam of which some have several parts. These questions will be of the same type and difficulty as the quiz questions and in-class exam questions. There will be no proofs on the exam. You will not be allowed to use any calculators on the exam.

It will be helpful for you to review our quiz and exam questions and to do the assigned homework exercises.

7.For students who did not write quizzes (quizzes 6-8) or in-class exams (exams 2 and 3), I shall add the corresponding percentage of the marks of your final exam to the missed quizzes or the in-class exams.

8. The course evaluation was given on November 30th. A student who did not complete it at that time may obtain a course evaluation form from me.

9.IMPORTANT DATE:

The last day to drop the course will be seven days after the final day of the second examination period.

Information for students who wrote the first final exam in December

1.The final letter grades have been posted outside the instructor's office(S514 Ross).

2.Any student who wrote the first final exam in December will not be allowed to write the second final exam.
