Syllabus: We will study the following sections: Chapters 1 to 6, Chapters 12, 8-sections 8.2 to 8.4, and 7-section 7.1. Note that we will not cover all sections of each chapter. Small changes to the content may be made.

Homework: You are expected to do all of the assigned homework. Homework will be assigned every lecture. The amount you learn in this course and the grade you receive will be proportional to the amount of time you spend doing problems. Homework will not be marked.

Exams and Grading Scheme: There will be 6 tests, 3 in the Fall term, 3 in the Winter term and a three-hour final exam. The final exam will count as 40% of your mark, while the term work will count as 60%. Only 5 best tests will be counted, each as 12% of your final mark.

Missed exams: With the exception of the exams scheduled at dates which are within the strike period of time, there will be no make-up exams for missed in-class tests. Upon presentation of documentation of a valid excuse the corresponding percentage of the final mark will be added to the final exam. With no presentation of such documentation a grade of zero will be entered for the missed test(s). If you miss the final exam then it is your responsibility to complete the required paperwork for deferred standing. A make-up final exam for students with deferred standing will be given.
