### ANNOUNCEMENTS

- [Jan.11] As announced in class last week, we will be meeting in the Gauss Lab from now on; unless announced otherwise.
- [Jan.12] The syllabus for the course has now been posted. It is exactly what we had discussed on the first day of class, but you should still have a look.
- [Jan.28] Regarding the questions you guys had:
- Here is how you could use optimise the ratio of two functions to find that upper bound M.
- You can see how the textbook works with gamma parametrization quite clearly in Example 2.6 (bottom of page 50).
- I will let you know about extra office hours. Depends if I can get enough work done over the weekend to allow spare time on Monday.

- [Feb.9] Office hours are cancelled this Friday. I will have additional office hours the Wednesday of reading week (most likely in the morning), exact times TBA.
- [Feb.11] I will have extra office hours on Wednesday, February 17th from 11am to 12:30pm. These are designed to help you with the two assignments due on Friday.
- [Feb.12] I have posted solutions to the assignments (see [Tests/Final]).
- [Feb.17] A few notes on the assignment: In example 9.6, I do not get the same estimate of correlation as in the text; this is OK - just do the question anyways. In Exercise 6 from the reference chapter, the true sampling distribution is the log-normal, where the parameters are from the mean and variance of the average.
- [Feb.18] In the last question for the second part of chapter 3 assignment (a modification of Exericse 3.18) please note that 1. there is a typo in the Gumbel density in the text, but wikipedia's version is correct; and 2. instead of the expectation of exp(X), I suggest you use the expectation of X^2 instead in the question.
- [Feb.22] Office hours on Feb. 26th are cancelled (so that I can attend the stats talk that day).
- [March 1] I have noticed some typos in the latest batch of in-class work and some have been pointed out to me - I have just corrected them. Please note that you may need to refresh your browser to get the updated versions.
- [March 1] Office hours on March 4th are cancelled.
- [March 9] You can omit the variance part of Exercise 4.15. Also, in part c, you can simulate the beta-binomial in a two-step approach, if you wish, for the regular MC estimates.
- [April 4] Extra office hours: Friday, April 8th, 10:30am-noon. Additional office hours will be announced later.
- [April 5] Extra office hours: Monday, April 11th, 1pm.
- [April 12] Just a reminder that your MCMC assignment is due at midnight on April 17th. This is a hard deadline for *all* students.

- [April 12] I have started giving some thought to your take-home exam, and will be posting some information for you shortly (you won't know the questions, but perhaps you will have some more guidance). Please watch for it.
