Basic Course InformationClasses start Thursday, January 3, 2008, and run Tu/Th
10-11:30 am in S169 Ross. Basic knowledge
of general topology is required. Necessary knowledge of category theory
may be acquired through supplementary reading during the course, but
some prior reading of basic categorical terms (category, functor,
natural transformation, limit, adjoint functor) may be useful. Final
grades will be based on 5 assignments (10% each), an individual project
(20%), and a final test in April.
Possible themes for individual project:
- The category of (quasi)uniform spaces as a topological category
over Set
- Locales and topological spaces
- Local compactness and exponentiability
- The homotopy category of Top
- The category of approach spaces as a topological category over Set
Talks will be scheduled for the second half of March.
